Short periods of dieting, such as a 5 day diet are used to create fast results or jump start a weight loss program.

This is not a long-term strategy. Instead, the goal is to drop pounds quickly. Having said that, you need to pursue fast weight loss in a healthy manner, or you will end up in a worse position than you started.

In this article I will share the results of a 500 calorie a day diet that my family followed, and explain how together, the three of us lost 17 pounds.

Before You Start Your 5 Day Diet

The most important point before you start your fast weight loss strategy is to make sure you’re healthy enough to do so. Anytime you change your diet, you should consult with your medical doctor to get clearance.

If you are physically capable of following a fast weight loss plan for five days, then here are some recommendations for getting the best results with the most nutrients.

How to Follow a 5 Day Diet for Fast Weight Loss

You want to make sure that you’re choosing foods that are high in nutrients and volume.

To get the most weight loss during a short-term diet, you’ll need to keep your calorie intake low. This creates a calorie deficit that makes your body turn to fat storage for energy.

By choosing foods like non-starchy vegetables (i.e. leafy greens, carrots, celery, broccoli, green beans, and snap peas), lean proteins (i.e. chicken, fish and shrimp), and a few healthy fats (i.e. limited nuts, seeds and avocado), you are filling your stomach with volume, and providing the vitamins and minerals your body needs to stay healthy.

The benefit of eating high-volume foods and taking in plenty of nutrients on a 5 day fast weight loss diet is that you keep hunger and cravings under control.

Your digestive tract has sensors that monitor how much food you’re eating and how many nutrients you are getting from your food choices. Give your body sufficient nutrients and volume, and you give your body what it needs. In return, you are not bombarded by hunger and cravings.

Have A Plan of Action For Your 5 Day Diet

A five day diet is a strict eating plan, so you want to make sure you have everything in place before day one. Have a meal plan in place, and prepare all of your meals ahead of time.

When my family followed the 5 day 500 calorie diet, I spent four hours in the kitchen on Sunday making salad toppings, soups and stir-fry vegetables. This was a lot of preparation, but saved us a lot of effort during the week.

Staying Mentally Strong During a 5 Day Diet

You may be thinking about doing a 5 day diet for fast weight loss because it sounds like an acceptable amount of time to push yourself. This is true, but it doesn’t change the fact that you must stay strict for the five days, and that requires mental toughness.

Make sure you have a strong motivation to complete your 5 day challenge before you start. You will need to remind yourself of the benefit you hope to achieve when your diet is complete.

A 5 day diet can be an effective way to jump start your weight loss program, but to do it safely, you need to choose foods with high nutrients, plan ahead, and stay mentally strong.
