What Are the 4 Bright Lines of Bright Line Eating?

Bright Line Eating is a weight loss program that used Bright Lines to systematize and automate your eating.

Those 4 Bright Lines are:

1. Avoid Sugar

2. Avoid Flour

3. Avoid Snacking

4. Weigh and Measure Your Foods

Some people consider Planning Your Meals to be the fifth Bright Line.

Members of the Bright Line Eating Boot Camps who affectionately refer to themselves as Bright Lifers strictly adhere to these rules every day to achieve higher than average weight loss.

Bright Line #1: Avoid Sugar

The rule for avoiding sugar requires you to read ingredient’s lists. You must avoid any foods that have sugar listed as one of the top three ingredients.

Sugar has many alternate names, so this rule also applies to foods that contain common sugar-like ingredients, such as…

  • Agave Nectar
  • Barley Malt
  • Cane Juice
  • Corn Syrup
  • Dextrose
  • Fructose
  • Fruit Juice Concentrate
  • Honey
  • Maltodextrin
  • Maple Syrup
  • Molasses

Bright Line #2: Avoid Flour

Like sugar, flour causes an insulin spike in the body that fuels hunger and inhibits fat burning. Flour is avoided entirely from your Bright Line Eating Meal Plan, meaning you must avoid whole grain flour, oat flour, almond flour, and coconut flour.

Since flour is found in breads, cereals, and pasta, these foods are avoided when you follow the Bright Line Eating Program.

Bright Line #3: Avoid Snacking

When you are a Bright Lifer, you stick to three meals a day with no snacking in between meals.

The act of eating will stimulate your appetite, so all forms of snacking are prohibited, meaning you don’t graze on vegetables in the afternoon or lick your fingers when you are cooking your food.

The food plan has you eat protein and fat with at least two meals to help fill you up and control hunger.

Bright Line #4: Weigh and Measure Your Food

A food scale is central to a Bright Line Eating Boot Camp Member. Program participants are strongly encouraged to weigh or measure every food item they put in their mouth. The proper amounts of foods to eat are included with the diet plan.

Additional Bright Line: Plan Your Meals

One of the habits that a Bright Line Eater gets into is writing down what they will be eating for the next day.

Bright Lifers are encouraged to place a tablet and pen next to the refrigerator and write down a plan of what they will be eating for breakfast, lunch, and dinner the next day.

Advantage of Following the Bright Lines

The four Bright Lines along with the nightly ritual of planning your meals automates your eating.

According to the founder and CEO, Dr. Susan Peirce Thompson, these habits and rituals free your mind from needing to make eating decisions when you are in a vulnerable state, like when you’re hungry, tired, or stressed. Therefore the Bright Lines eliminate much of your need for willpower.

Short periods of dieting, such as a 5 day diet are used to create fast results or jump start a weight loss program.

This is not a long-term strategy. Instead, the goal is to drop pounds quickly. Having said that, you need to pursue fast weight loss in a healthy manner, or you will end up in a worse position than you started.

In this article I will share the results of a 500 calorie a day diet that my family followed, and explain how together, the three of us lost 17 pounds.

Before You Start Your 5 Day Diet

The most important point before you start your fast weight loss strategy is to make sure you’re healthy enough to do so. Anytime you change your diet, you should consult with your medical doctor to get clearance.

If you are physically capable of following a fast weight loss plan for five days, then here are some recommendations for getting the best results with the most nutrients.

How to Follow a 5 Day Diet for Fast Weight Loss

You want to make sure that you’re choosing foods that are high in nutrients and volume.

To get the most weight loss during a short-term diet, you’ll need to keep your calorie intake low. This creates a calorie deficit that makes your body turn to fat storage for energy.

By choosing foods like non-starchy vegetables (i.e. leafy greens, carrots, celery, broccoli, green beans, and snap peas), lean proteins (i.e. chicken, fish and shrimp), and a few healthy fats (i.e. limited nuts, seeds and avocado), you are filling your stomach with volume, and providing the vitamins and minerals your body needs to stay healthy.

The benefit of eating high-volume foods and taking in plenty of nutrients on a 5 day fast weight loss diet is that you keep hunger and cravings under control.

Your digestive tract has sensors that monitor how much food you’re eating and how many nutrients you are getting from your food choices. Give your body sufficient nutrients and volume, and you give your body what it needs. In return, you are not bombarded by hunger and cravings.

Have A Plan of Action For Your 5 Day Diet

A five day diet is a strict eating plan, so you want to make sure you have everything in place before day one. Have a meal plan in place, and prepare all of your meals ahead of time.

When my family followed the 5 day 500 calorie diet, I spent four hours in the kitchen on Sunday making salad toppings, soups and stir-fry vegetables. This was a lot of preparation, but saved us a lot of effort during the week.

Staying Mentally Strong During a 5 Day Diet

You may be thinking about doing a 5 day diet for fast weight loss because it sounds like an acceptable amount of time to push yourself. This is true, but it doesn’t change the fact that you must stay strict for the five days, and that requires mental toughness.

Make sure you have a strong motivation to complete your 5 day challenge before you start. You will need to remind yourself of the benefit you hope to achieve when your diet is complete.

A 5 day diet can be an effective way to jump start your weight loss program, but to do it safely, you need to choose foods with high nutrients, plan ahead, and stay mentally strong.

Eczema Is This Causing My Baby’s Rash?

Eczema is a skin irritation that results in small, itchy blisters that ooze or weep. It can occur at any age but is common in infants and children under the age of 5.

Eczema Symptoms include itchy reddened skin with numerous small blisters, scales, or crusts. The irritated skin may produce a watery discharge.

The rash may occur for no known reason but is many times an Allergic Reaction to such things as foods (seafood, eggs, or milk), clothing (especially wool), lotions, soaps, topical medications, and detergents. Eczema is not contagious.

Treatment of eczema includes removal of irritating factor such as food, clothing, etc. Avoid scratching the area which can cause the inflamed area to expand. You can place gloves on the hands of infants and children when they sleep to avoid scratching.

The use of topical ointments may control symptoms. Antihistamines may be prescribed if necessary for older patients.

How To Treat Diaper Rash and How To Avoid It

Diaper rash is a form of contact dermatitis that causes irritation to the skin in the diapered area. It is caused by an infection from yeast or fungus. These infectious organisms thrive in warm moist environments, such as a wet or soiled diaper.

Symptoms of diaper rash include a red, painful rash around the genital and anal regions.

Diaper rash is most likely to occur after prolonged contact with urine or feces in the diaper. If the infant has sensitive skin, the symptoms may be worse or occur more often. The incidence of diaper rash will increase in hot, humid weather.

Treatment is focused on keeping the child dry. Change diapers frequently and leave diaper off as long as possible between changes.

Do not use baby oil or lotions unless specifically recommended for diaper rash. Many over-the-counter ointments are available to treat diaper rash such as petroleum jelly, or zinc oxide ointments.

If the rash persists, or worsens, seek a pediatricians advice to assure no complications result such as secondary bacterial infections.
